Star Wars Force Unleashed Trailer is SWEET DARK MADNESS!
Jul 13, 2008 - 1:09 AM - by species8472
Lucasarts is finally wrapping up Star Wars Force Unleashed for a 9/16 release and I say it is ABOUT DAMN TIME as we have been teased enough over the last year or so. Force Unleashed really serves as the first game in which the entire story line is about Vader, the emperor and the Mighty Dark Side. I especially like the games focus on "Betrayal" which is in the "Siths" nature and truly defines who they are.

Apparently "Tropic Thunder" is a Winner!
Jul 13, 2008 - 12:51 AM - by species8472
The new Army Comedy Tropic Thunder is a movie about a group of actors determined to finish a movie after the movie was canceled eventually running into serious trouble in southeast Asia. The movie stars Jack Black, Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr and the movie appears to be a complete BLAST and not a cheap pretender attempting to cash in on pop culture and parody's according to several reviews over at AICN. As expected, Downey Jr playing a white guy (via surgery) who looks and acts black is brilliant along with his partners in crime Black and Stiller.

From the moment the fake trailers started playing to introduce the characters from their previous (fictitious) movies, our audience was laughing and there were only a couple of lulls during the 105-or-so minutes. The three main actors (Stiller, Black, Downey Jr) all get big laughs throughout the movie. The best part of the funniest scenes is that they aren't based on gags, one-liners, or pop culture references. The laughs come from the actors being funny as the characters they are playing…the scenes are funny, the dialogue is funny, and the performances are strong enough that some of the biggest laughs are from the vocal nuances and facial expressions.
Every actor turned in a solid effort here, but Robert Downey Jr. was the highlight for me. He had some of the best lines and the way he played a white man acting as a black man was genius. The trailers don't do his character justice – he's really just that good here. One of the best scenes happens when Downey is talker to Stiller about who gets rewarded at the Oscars and why – it had our audience cheering.
I'm not a fan of some past Stiller characters (Zoolander, Starsky/Hutch) because, for me at least, it felt like he expected the audience to laugh without really giving them a reason to. This time, he gives you plenty of reasons. He's funny, energetic and is actually giving depth and life to his fictional character. His character goes on a personal journey in the film, the climax of which is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.

Mystery XBOX 360 Motion Controller Revealed?
Jul 12, 2008 - 10:03 PM - by species8472
For the last few months we have all endured rumors regarding a Motion Controller for 360. Microsoft denies it's existence (naturally) but many credible sources say the device is coming. Well, yesterday a company called Motus Games announced that they will release a Motion Controller in the next year. But strangly there is no mention of PC, 360 or PS3 on their site anywhere and no sign of a PC or Console in the images of them playing Star Wars. Is this the same controller that has been rumored for 360? The controller called "Darwin" is working with 3 games at the moment and they are working on support for more. You know, the Wii is "OK" but the lack of killer games has been a big issue for me along with Nintendo's (plain fucking stupid) blatant disregard for ONLINE PLAY (and other features like Voicemail, Text Messages, Chat, etc.
What is really interesting about this product is how their motion sensing technology works (different than Wii). Apparently the device utilizes several internal gyroscopes to track it's movements and know where it is (Wii relies on accelerometers and IR strip) providing a much better experience then the Wiimote. If the Darwin is adopted for future use in games for the Sports, FPS, Action and Adventure Genres, we will have a bona-fide hit on our hands.

Tarantino is back with HELL RIDE!
Jul 12, 2008 - 9:13 PM - by species8472
Quentin Tarantino is back with a new movie that guys at Aintitcool says is like Grindhouse without the Grindhouse name. Well, after viewing the trailer, I totally AGREE. This wild ride featuring Vinny Jones, Michael Madsen, Dennis Hopper and David Carradine should continue to revive the old days of first rate B movies and spaghetti westerns.
From Comingsoon.net:
Quote:
Opening August 8th, Hell Ride is a raucous throwback to the days of the Sergio Leone spaghetti western, with a heaping helping of testosterone-fueled chopper action thrown into the mix. Writer/director Larry Bishop takes on a third role as Pistolero, head honcho of the Victors, a group of badass bikers who are out to avenge the murder of one of their members at the hands of the 666ers, a rival gang whose actions live up to their hellish moniker.

RIM looks to take on iPhone with Touchscreen BlackBerry Thunder!
Jul 08, 2008 - 4:36 AM - by species8472
RIM is not sitting on their ASS as Apple attempts to creep into their domain on Friday with the release of the 3G iPhone. The 3G iPhone finally adds support for corporate email such as Exchange Push Mail. RIM has finally had enough of Jobs and company is pushing back with the Touchscreen enabled BlackBerry Thunder! On and Off paper this phone is looking HOT along with what appears to be a more than decent Media Player with Portrait support. If the Thunder turns out to be the real deal, Apple better watch themselves or RIM will pull a few Rabbits out of the old hat slowing growth for them in the corporate sector.
Thanks to Gizmodo for the heads up on the images above, full story at BlackBerry Sync HERE.

Hellboy 2 Widget!
Jul 08, 2008 - 4:02 AM - by species8472
Hellboy 2 is nearly upon us and the movie is scoring pretty well as its current rating at Rottentomatoes is 94% (15 fresh and 1 rotten). The first movie was not bad but lacked a little something in the character development department and Selma Blair's character Liz was just pathetic with her inability to accept and control her power. Now a few years later, Del Toro has free reign and has gone balls to the wall in what could be one of the better sequels to come along in quite a while (outside of Batman: Dark Knight). The widget below has access to the trailer, downloads and more. Enjoy!

Too Human CO-OP Featurette!
Jul 08, 2008 - 3:44 AM - by species8472
Since ditching the Unreal 3 Engine and suing EPIC, Silicon Knights and Microsoft Game Studios have been very HARD at work on Too Human. As many of you know I played Too Human at E3 2006 when the game was still running on the U3 Engine and even though the game was in a early stage, I really LIKE the controls and the fast paced God of War type combat (this was before the customization was announced). Now 2 years later, the game is running on a new engine (designed by Silicon Knights) and has progressed quite a bit in terms of features and gameplay. I am looking forward to this game along with Fable 2, GoW2 and a few others.

Gears of War 2 MP Hands On at Teamxbox!
Jul 08, 2008 - 3:31 AM - by species8472
Teamxbox has a preview of GoW2 Multiplayer Component along with screens and video. GoW2 is really starting to hold my attention as we cruise deeper into Q3. Really looking forward to the Chainsaw Duels along with the new finishing moves for Curb Stomps. The addition of new multiplayer modes like Guardian and Wingman sound extremely appealing as I believe in tons of MP modes (ala COD4, HALO3 and GTAIV) - The more the better. Enough from my ass, check the goodness HERE.

DTV Transition in serious trouble?
Jul 08, 2008 - 3:20 AM - by species8472
According to data gathered by Arstechnica and tons of advocate groups, this country is not ready for the DTV Transition. Recent reports indicate that over 12 million households are not ready for the Transition from Analog to Digital TV. Many of these households depend on TV for Weather and other Emergency Information including local News. With less than a year to go, someone better kick the campaign into high gear or next February will be very interesting..
Arstechnica Article is HERE.

Hancock and the "Twist"!
Jul 08, 2008 - 3:05 AM - by species8472
If you saw Hancock over the holiday weekend you were probably disappointed with the twist mid-way through the movie along with the movies ending. Despite the poor ending, the movie took in slightly over 100 million for the 4 day holiday weekend. The first half of the movie was fun, funny and some-what engaging, then came the twist and what felt like a "unfinished movie". Did they suddenly run out of ideas after coming up with a good premise? The whole anti-hero thing was unique and had sooo much potential (keyword being "had"). Yahoo has a piece on the twist and other movies with twists that did not sit well with us movie going public. Ohh well, we still have Hellboy and Batman.

007 Bond: Quantum of Solace HD Trailer is LIVE!
Jul 02, 2008 - 2:30 AM - by species8472
The guys over at AICN posted some news regarding a new Bond Trailer over a MovieFone. The Trailer is available in SD and HD including 1080p Quicktime and shows us Bond, M and the rest of the crew in the aftermath of the first movie. I really like that they are creating a storyline and arch to be followed from film to film instead of always been treated to a random Bond movie and storyline. The return of many characters from the first film is a huge plus in my book as it is good to see alliances and friendships forged out of the madness that is the "Spy Game". But the best thing about this new Bond is that they are giving us the Rogue Agent Bond who had his heart broken, never recovering, unleashing hell upon thus who dare to cross his path. Bond in all his glory is HERE.

Batman: Dark Knight 7 Minutes - IMAX!
Jul 02, 2008 - 1:16 AM - by species8472
Those of us that saw "I am Legend" on the IMAX back before X-MAS were treated to the first 7 minutes of Batman: Dark Knight. The Bank Heist Footage was shot using the IMAX cameras (one of 6 sequences) and the result is COMPLETELY STUNNING. The second the footage began I knew exactly what is it WAS and CHEERED (like a FOOL)! The quality of this clip is not good as WB has yet to release a good SD or HD version. Enjoy!

Hancocks opens tomorrow, Will Smith attempts to rule 4th of July again!
Jul 02, 2008 - 1:08 AM - by species8472
Will Smith's latest Flick Hancock opens tomorrow in theaters nationwide. With a July 2nd opening, the studio is attempting to rake in massive cash over the 4th of July 5 day weekend. Hancock is a misunderstand sarcastic superhero who tends to do more harm than good with his heroic antics and after the city becomes tired of his "destroying everything" he realizes that he has a higher calling. Hancock has received mixed reviews thus far but frankly summer movies are typically a mixed bag based on ones expectation therefore who cares? The 4th is here, the weather is nice and nothing is better than a warm night out with the latest summer blockbuster.

XBOX 360 Price Cut is coming (just in time for E3)!
Jun 30, 2008 - 10:39 PM - by species8472
What started out as a rogue rumor is pretty much now fact as multiple sources and retailers are starting to confirm the upcoming XBOX 360 Premium Price Cut from 349.00 to 299.00. 50 bones is quite a savings and pretty much pays for a game, extra controller, tons of movie rentals, etc, etc, etc. Glad to see the price drop a little more opening up the console to more consumers and also pushing back at Sony and their small monthly sales victories. With the Premium dropping to 299.00 will the core drop to 249.99 or 239.99? Things that make you go "hmmm".

Another Dark Knight Review and Helboy II Review, this time AICN (Harry)!
Jun 30, 2008 - 10:21 PM - by species8472
The good ole boys over at Aintitcool Network have some reviews of the Dark Knight and Hellboy II. Such a shame we have to wait several more weeks for Batman. I want some "Batman: Dark Knight" on IMAX and I want it "NOW"! Ok, that outburst is over (my bad).. Hellboy I is scoring well in reviews which is surprising to me as the humor in the trailers feels force and out of place but maybe it is just another poor trailer (ala Get Smart).. We will all find out soon enough.. Reviews are HERE

Rhapsody goes DRM FREE - MORE FAIR USE!
Jun 30, 2008 - 4:39 PM - by species8472
Rhapsody is now offering DRM Free Music and we are talking roughly 5 million songs. The music will be available via Rhapsody, Yahoo and Verizon V-CAST. The sooner everyone drops the DRM the better as it is a nasty nightmare that renders perfectly good tunes unusable sometime after purchase or download via subscription. I do not know about you but DRM Free Tunes definitely gives me more incentive to buy digital music.

WANTED is good movie and rules the weekend along with WALL-E!
Jun 30, 2008 - 4:00 PM - by species8472
WANTED and WALL-E opened on Friday. Two movies aimed at two difference audiences and both movies did very well taking in 52 million and 61 million respectively. WANTED did not take the top spot but trailed WALL-E only by 9 million. WANTED was a much better movie that I expected. The movie opens with deep shades of Office Space. Wesley played by John Mcavoy (Wesley) is a "Pathetic" soul who allows his girlfriend to walk all over him along with this boss and his best friend/co-worker (who takes breaks from work to go screw Wesley's girlfriend). All he does is apologize (constantly says "I'm Sorry") and pop pills for what he thinks is "anxiety" but his "anxiety" is actually his special gift. The movie has some good surprises, great cinematography, sweet special effects along with a decent script. The movie is part Office Space, part Matrix and part Minority Report. In all the movie is entertaining without coming off as a pretender or obnoxious. Unfortunately I did not see WALL-E and with Hancock this weekend, Hellboy the week after than Batman, I may not get a chance for some time.
